Cat Park Tour & Wine Tasting

Activity Description

Visitors to our Big Cats Park can enjoy the rare and exciting experience of being able to view these beautiful creatures up close, but still from the safety of our viewing decks and behind the enclosure fences! After all, these are wild animals and we respect them as such.

Our Big Cats Park offers a unique experience not to be found anywhere else along the Stellenbosch wine route, where one can both view and learn more about these majestic creatures that may well one day cease to exist in anything but our history books. It’s a must-visit for any animal lover, and we look forward to grrrrr-eeting you soon!

Set alongside Hudson’s Restaurant, our Tasting Room is the perfect place to enjoy your first introduction to Vredenheim’s range of wines. Offering seating at the counter or at large tables, we are able to accommodate groups of any size, from romantic tastings for two to tour group visits.

Our private cellar, adjacent to our Tasting Room, provides the perfect setting for intimate tutored tastings and is very popular with small groups and wine clubs.

Our Tasting Room also shares the stage with our Gift Shop, giving guests the perfect excuse to browse around whilst enjoying a wine tasting. From calendars and curios to jewellery, toys and art, and everything in between, there’s really something for everyone!

Pensioners can pay on arrival, no need for a online booking.

Customer Reviews

A unique combination of activities in a beautiful setting. So heartening to see the cats sympathetically cared for. Our guide was a personable young German student. We got lost twice trying to find the entrance to the cat park so perhaps another signpost is required. The wine tasting was overseen by a knowledgeable employee: just a pity we had a flight to catch so couldn't purchase a decent quantity of wine! - M L Potter

We had the most amazing experience. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Great wines and most beautiful scenery. It's always been a dream to see a tiger as it's my favorite animal, phenomenal! Definitely worth every minute - Raymonde Samsodien

We booked a slot at the cat park from home based on recommendations from friends. The staff was friendly and it was well arranged. One should remember that it is basically not different from any zoo or animal park were animals live in pretty narrow and restricted areas with very little to do. If your expectations are to se wild cats behind a fence, this is a good activity to do. We also did the wine tasting which was nice and with friendly staff. If you are somewhat into wines, these wines has a moderate quality but are also pretty cheap = price worthy. - Richard Frobell

Vredenheim have a number of tourist facilities within the estate, and we booked the Cat Park Tour & Wine Tasting experience for our last day as no more than a way of passing time before our flight back to the UK. We enjoyed a light breakfast in Hudsons, before the tour, and then spent around an hour seeing the lions, tigers, and leopard kept within the grounds. We then spent an hour or so tasting a few of their wines and juices (I was driving) before heading off. All in all we had a very nice morning there - it's a beautiful estate, and the staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We're not usually keen on seeing wildlife in captivity, particularly in a part of the world where access to it in the wild is easy to obtain, but were reassured that the Estate is not a breeding centre, and functions as a sanctuary, effectively, for cats bred elsewhere, in captivity, that cannot be released into the wild. It was certainly the closest I have ever been to a full size adult lion! Would recommend without hesitation for anyone within an hour of the site, with an itinerary to fill (or a few spare hours). - Brett Powell

I loved our visit to Vredenheim and seeing the big cats. The tour was informative and the guide was great. Beautiful grounds and the wine tasting was excellent - Marlize Dalton
