Cat Park Tour & Wine Tasting

Stellenbosch

Activity Description

Visitors to our Big Cats Park can enjoy the rare and exciting experience of being able to view these beautiful creatures up close, but still from the safety of our viewing decks and behind the enclosure fences! After all, these are wild animals and we respect them as such.

Our Big Cats Park offers a unique experience not to be found anywhere else along the Stellenbosch wine route, where one can both view and learn more about these majestic creatures that may well one day cease to exist in anything but our history books. It’s a must-visit for any animal lover, and we look forward to grrrrr-eeting you soon!

Set alongside Hudson’s Restaurant, our Tasting Room is the perfect place to enjoy your first introduction to Vredenheim’s range of wines. Offering seating at the counter or at large tables, we are able to accommodate groups of any size, from romantic tastings for two to tour group visits.

Our private cellar, adjacent to our Tasting Room, provides the perfect setting for intimate tutored tastings and is very popular with small groups and wine clubs.

Our Tasting Room also shares the stage with our Gift Shop, giving guests the perfect excuse to browse around whilst enjoying a wine tasting. From calendars and curios to jewellery, toys and art, and everything in between, there’s really something for everyone!

Customer Reviews

Vredenheim have a number of tourist facilities within the estate, and we booked the Cat Park Tour & Wine Tasting experience for our last day as no more than a way of passing time before our flight back to the UK. We enjoyed a light breakfast in Hudsons, before the tour, and then spent around an hour seeing the lions, tigers, and leopard kept within the grounds. We then spent an hour or so tasting a few of their wines and juices (I was driving) before heading off. All in all we had a very nice morning there - it's a beautiful estate, and the staff were all very pleasant and helpful. We're not usually keen on seeing wildlife in captivity, particularly in a part of the world where access to it in the wild is easy to obtain, but were reassured that the Estate is not a breeding centre, and functions as a sanctuary, effectively, for cats bred elsewhere, in captivity, that cannot be released into the wild. It was certainly the closest I have ever been to a full size adult lion! Would recommend without hesitation for anyone within an hour of the site, with an itinerary to fill (or a few spare hours). - Brett Powell

I loved our visit to Vredenheim and seeing the big cats. The tour was informative and the guide was great. Beautiful grounds and the wine tasting was excellent - Marlize Dalton

We had a great time at vredenheim. We got to see a tiger for the first time in our lives. The restaurants are top notch and we enjoyed the food. - Emmanuel Makwaiba

This was our last outing before returning to UK after having spent 2 1/2 months in South Africa. The guide who took us around the Cats was very informative and interesting to listen to. It is not ideal seeing wild animals in runs like this however they are at least safe and well cared for. We then had the wine tasting. Unfortunately the wine was not to our pallet although we did take a bottle of the pink bubbles back for later which, when really cold, went down fine! The girls were charming. Beautiful, peaceful, well maintained surroundings and an idea way for us to round off our stay in South Africa. Thank you! - Amanda Willats

Very good day both the Cat Tour and Wine tasting. The young man who showed us around the cats was excellent and the young lady with the wine tasting very pleasant. The coffee and food very good in restaurant, lovely grounds all in all a great time. - Bob Paggett
